OAK.memory

Connect Claude Code

Use a personal key and store profile to connect the OAK.memory plugin to hosted memory.

Install the plugin

Run these commands in Claude Code, then restart or reload the plugin as instructed by Claude Code. This installs the integration; it does not create a cloud store or supply your account credentials.

Claude Code
/plugin marketplace add fredriccliver/oak-memory-plugin
/plugin install oak-memory@oak-memory

Connect a store profile

Open the dashboard, select your store and open its connection panel. Create a personal key and download the matching profile. Import the profile with the plugin’s profile workflow and enter the key when requested. Verify the connection with currentMemoryStore before storing anything. Do not paste your API key into a memory or a shared document.

Save the downloaded file as ~/.config/oak-memory/profiles.json. Open /plugin → installed oak-memory@oak-memory → Configure. Set profiles_file to its absolute path. Enter your personal key in the masked cloud_credentials field as the JSON shown below, replacing YOUR_KEY privately. Never paste a key into a chat.

Claude Code
/oak-memory:memory-connect
/oak-memory:memory-status

Run /oak-memory:memory-connect and /oak-memory:memory-status. Check this store ID and your role before using it. /oak-memory:memory-profile switches configured stores; changes are session-local.

Switch stores safely

Each store requires its own personal key and profile. Choose the matching profile and reconnect before continuing. listMemoryStores discovers accessible stores but does not switch the key’s store or grant membership. Removing your membership revokes associated keys; sharing the store again does not revive old keys.

Documentation

Persistent memory for your AI workflow. Start with a private store, connect Claude Code, and carry useful context from one session to the next.

Quickstart

Create a store, connect your assistant and save your first memory. The cloud service runs the database for you.

Core concepts

Understand memories, stores and retrieval before connecting them to a longer workflow.

Connect ChatGPT or Claude

In your app’s custom MCP or connector settings, add https://www.openaikits.com/api/mcp and choose OAuth. Sign in to OAK, choose a store and approve access. You return to your app automatically. Automatic registration needs no API key, client ID or secret.

Connect Claude Code

Use a personal key and store profile to connect the OAK.memory plugin to hosted memory.

Share a memory store

Give collaborators access to a shared context while keeping each account’s identity and usage separate.

MCP tool reference

The cloud MCP endpoint exposes tools for store discovery, retrieval and memory changes. Your connection supplies the account and store context.

Usage tiers and limits

Understand which limits your account shares, how operation credits work and what to do when a request is refused.

Troubleshooting

Identify whether an issue comes from your connection, permissions, usage or the embedding service.

Local plugin setup

Run memory on your own machine instead of using a hosted cloud store. This has a separate database and setup process.
